Will Masai Barefoot Technology Shoes Get the Europeans in Shape?
Beatrice Stephenson asked:
Hiking and walking has been the no No.1 exercise for Europeans for years, among other things they developed the so called “Nordic walking” i.e. walking or hiking with poles for a more effective calorie burn and back strengthening.
The most recent big thing for hikers and walkers are the Masai Barefoot Technology Shoes, also called MBT shoes, and their popularity is now spreading to the US and the rest of the world. Effective for calorie burning, posture improvement, backpain and weightloss, the somewhat odd looking shoe can be seen in the stores around. But those who have tested the shoe are almost religious about the benefits they gain from them, and they wont let the appearance scare them away. Besides, the shoe now comes in various models (sandals, boots, sneakers, casuals) and colors.
Here are some different ways of using your Masai Barefoot technology shoes:
-Fuel up your weight loss with a pair of MBT shoes. Many people have experienced that their efforts to loose weight really gets a boost with MBT’s, since it makes you burn more calories and activates neglected muscle groups. Use them at work, playing with your children, walking the dog, shopping e.t.c and you will see results!
-Reduce your cellulites within a month. Walk 1 hour a day (on your way to work, walking the dog, cleaning your home, walking with the bay stroller).
-Reduce back and neck pain and gain back and hamstring muscles. Three times a week, 1 hour at a time. Remember, if your suffering from severe back pain, don’t walk more than three times a week with them, and wear them little by little so your body will get used to them.

Actually, footwear with rocker soles like MBT’s would be lethal on a hiking trail, where footwear needs to be stable because the ground is always uneven, often very rocky sometimes wet and perhaps even slick — and in the mountains, generally steep. Hiking boots that come up over the ankle and have big-lug soles for traction are required for real hiking.
Also, an American pioneer named Tom Rutlin developed fitness walking with poles before Nordic Walking came to the forefront in Europe. He called it Exerstriding. The name Nordic Walking was indeed given to a similar (but not identical) form of fitness walking with poles in Europe several years later.
